Let me look back at my conference activities basically from the earliest years. I first became involved in academic activities in 1975, when I was a student in the Graduate School of Linguistics at the University of Kansas in the United States (later transferred to the School of Education and completed Master’s program in May 1978), where I was a member until 2021 of TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages). I was a member from 1976 to 1998. Next was NFMLTA (The National Federation of Modern Language Teachers), a member from 1976 to 1998, and JALT (Japan Association for Language Teaching – formerly the Japan Association for Language Teachers), a member from 1978 until the time of writing in 2023 of which I was a member from 1978 to the time of writing in 2023, I was a member of the Tokai (Nagoya) Chapter Treasurer from 1978 to 1979, and a member of the National Steering Committee from 1981 to 1982. From 1981 to 1982, I was a member of the National Steering Committee (in charge of programs); from 1983 to 1984, I was the Chair of the National Public Relations Committee and a member of the Tokai (Nagoya) Chapter Public Relations Committee; in 1985, I was the Chair of the Summer Seminar Committee; from 1986 to 1993, I was the founder and Chapter Chair of the Toyohashi Chapter; from 1987 to 1991, I was the National Public Relations Committee Chair; and from 1992 to 1993, I was the Chair of the CALT Committee. I also served as the founder and chair of the CALL Special Interest Group from 1992 to 1993, and as the editor of the newsletter. I have actively participated in academic conferences by presenting my research at international conventions as a member of the general membership.

学会活動を基本的に古い年代から振り返ってみる。最初に学会活動に参加したのは、米国のカンサス大学大学院言語学部（後に教育学部へ移籍し、1978年5月修士過程修了）に在籍していた1975年で、2021年まで会員だったTESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages)であった。次に1976年から1998年まで会員であったのは、NFMLTA (The National Federation of Modern Language Teachers)であった。1978年から2023年の執筆時点まで会員である特定非営利活動法人全国語学教育学会(JALT : Japan Association for Language Teaching – formerly Japan Association of Language Teachers) では、1978年から1979まで東海（名古屋）支部会計委員、1981年から1982年まで全国運営委員（プログラム担当）、1983年から1984年まで全国広報委員長及び東海（名古屋）支部広報委員、1985年夏季セミナー実行委員会委員長、 1986年から1993年まで豊橋支部創設者及び支部長、1987年から1991年まで全国広報委員長、1992年から1993 年までCALLスペシャル・インタレスト・グループ創設者及び委員長、ニューズレター編者などを歴任しながら、全国組織の役員をしていた時代には盛岡、仙台、新潟、宇都宮、水戸、埼玉、東京、名古屋、豊橋、高松などの支部月例会で講演をしたり、一般会員として国際大会での研究発表をして積極的に学会参加をしてきている。

In the Japan Association of Language Education and Technology (LET : Japan Association of Language Education and Technology), of which I became a member in 1981, I have been active in the Chubu Chapter from 1997 to 1999 as one of the officers of the association, except for a few years after it moved to the Kansai Chapter, when I became a member in 2008 as a reviewer for the twelfth issue of the journal. JACET (Japan Association of College English Teachers), of which I was a member from 1982 to 2021, has been a member since 2007. I was a member of JACET (Japan Association of College English Teachers) from 1982 to 2021, and served mainly as one of the reviewers of the Kansai Section Journal from 2008 to 2019, except for my contribution as a member of the Kansai Section Steering Committee from 2007 to 2009. The International Society for Intercultural Training and Research) from 1988 to 1998, and a member of the Japan Communication Association (JCA) from 1988 to 2021. I was a member of the General Committee of CALICO (Computer Assisted Language Learning & Instruction Consortium) from 1988 to the time of writing, and I was a member of ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education) from 1990 to 2001 and JSET (Japan Society for Educational Technology) from 1995 to 2014.

I have been a member of the Council of Improvement for Education through Computers (CIEC : Council of Improvement for Education through Computers) since its inception in 1996 until the time of writing, a member from 2000 to 2005, 1998 to 2001, and Director of the National Steering Committee from 2008 to 2014, President of the Foreign Education Section from 1998 to 2017, member of the PC Conference Convention Committee from 1999 to 2001 and 2005 to 2006, member of the International Relations Committee from 2008 to 2010 and 2012 to 2014, and I was a member of APA CALL (Asian Pacific CALL Association) from 2002 until the time of writing, and served on the GLoCALL 2009 Conference Committee from 2009 and 2010. committee member, a project member of the conference steering committee from 2008 to 2010, and served as vice president from 2010 to 2014 and from 2016 to 2022.

I hasve been a general member of EuroCALL (European CALL Association) from 2002 to the time of writing and have presented my research at international conferences in France, England, Belgium, Sweden, Finland, and Austria. I was a member of the International Behavior Society (2003-2008), a member of the Steering Committee (2003-2007), Chair of the English Special Interest Group (2004-2005), Vice Chair of the Language Special Interest Group (2006-2007), and a national conference chair in 2007 when it was held at Ritsumeikan University Biwako Kusatsu Campus in Kusatsu, Shiga. I was a general member of JAECS (Japan Association of English Corpus Studies) from 2005 to 2012 and a member of IADIS (International Association for Development Studies) from 2007 to 2014. I was one of the reviewers for the IADIS (International Association for the Development of the Information Society) e-learning international conference from 2007 to 2014, and was a member of the GEMA Language Studies Reviewer for the Online Journal of Language Studies, School of Language Studies and Linguistics, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, in 2010, and for the 6th ICTATLL International Conference (Kyoto, Japan, September 21-23), member of the Scientific Committee; member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Spectrum Humanities and Social Sciences in 2012; member of the International Advisory Committee for the 2nd World Congress on Linguistics and Foreign Language Education (December 11-13, 2014); member of the Korean Editorial Board Member of The Korea Association of Multimedia-Assisted Language Learning (Overseas Committee Member), Reviewer of papers for the 2nd Global Conference on Linguistics and Foreign Language Education in 2014, 2016 International Advisory Committee Member for the WorldCALL 2018 Conference (University of Concepción, Chile), International Program Committee Member for CSEDU 2017 & 2018 (9th-10th International Conference on Computer Assisted Education), and JALT CALL 2022 International Conference Review Committee Member in 2022. I have also contributed as a member of the JALT CALL 2022 International Conference Review Committee in 2022. Notably, I was co-editor and webmaster of the Computer Assisted Language Learning Electronic Journal (CALL-EJ) from 1999 to 2015 and as the Editor-in-Chief from 2016 to 2022, I have made international contributions as lead editor and webmaster.
